The video premiered on Notion Magazine. With the release of the single, he received support from the tastemaker publication CLASH Magazine, adding to the growing list of webzines that have written about his work, which also includes This Song Is Sick, Dancing Astronaut, Earmilk, EDM Identity, FUXWITHIT, and Acid Stag. On radio, the artist’s music has received airplay on ABC’s triple j unearthed.
Following his previously released singles ‘Better Off Not Knowing’ and ‘Ever Day (Is Always The Same)’, ‘About You’ is the third single that Ian Munro has released under the munro moniker. Starting fresh, he intends to tinker with elements of UK Garage and Indie Pop under the alias. Accumulating a play count of over 15 million across streaming platforms, munro has been featured on multiple Apple podcasts, some of which were hosted by the likes of Alison Wonderland, Slander & NGHTMRE and Zeds Dead. Native to Auckland, New Zealand, Ian Munro is only just beginning his journey under the munro alias. The producer has spent the past half-decade refining his sound and honing his charisma on stage, playing sold-out shows alongside Trap legend UZ at SXSW and Quality Goods Records’ LA showcase. Along the way, he has gained recognition from some of the industry’s most prominent acts, namely Diplo, Skrillex, Hardwell, RL Grime, San Holo and more. Taking his inspiration from the likes of Fred Again.., Four Tet and Lapalux, the producer’s sound touches on aspects of FLUME, ODESZA and Ross From Friends.
Described as future nostalgia, Electronic producer munro’s latest artistic creation, a wistful and wonderful video for his recently released record ‘About You’, is a liberal splash of colour. Layer by layer, the video captures his creative essence in impressionistic brush strokes. Using StableFusion, an AI program, to stylize the video footage, munro bridges two eras, and the result is an attention-grabbing meeting of classic art and modern video production.
munro tells us how he approached the video: “I wanted to tackle the direction for this video in a way that flipped the narrative of the songwriting on its head. I’ve always loved the idea that art exists in this ambiguous space of negotiated interpretations – no matter what you intend the message to be, someone’s going to hear it, feel it, and see it entirely differently. Watch it over and over again and you’ll find new hidden pieces in there.”
