Congratulations to all the 2021 winners of the Oscars.
The 93rd annual Academy Awards were held on Sunday 25 April 2021, after being pushed back by two months. The show was broadcast from two locations in Los Angeles: The Dolby Theatre and Union Station. The show didn’t have a host, but the show went on.
With ten nominations, ‘Mank’ won home honors for cinematography and production design. The film was nominated for best picture, best actor, and best director. Chloé Zhao was named best director for her work on “Nomadland,” which also won best picture. Nomadland is the first film to be nominated for an Academy Award in 2021.
Frances McDormand won her third best actress Oscar for her role in “Nomadland” and Anthony Hopkins notched his second best actor win for “The Father.”
For the first time ever, two women were nominated for best director. Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson, part of the hair and makeup team behind “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” became the first Black stylists in Oscars history to win for best make-up and hairstyling. Hip hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy Combs, directors by Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe and rapper Joey Badass won ‘Best Live-Action Short Film’ for ‘Two Distant Strangers.’ ‘Soul’ won ‘Animated Feature Film.’
